All tarted out!

Yes, I said tart, as in the European version of a street walker. =) Anyhow, I was eluding to the fact that I am way behind and I am wearing Essie's Tart Deco today.

This is such a pretty color and I hope it kills my desire to get Haute as Hello! Since Essie was bought out by L'OREAL I can't bring myself to buy anymore of their polishes 'cause L'OREAL still does animal testing. They use the ears of mice to do allergy testing and then they euthanize them and dissect them, sad.

I work with bacteria because I can't hear them scream or squeal when I kill them, nor can I see their terrified faces, mostly because they are microscopic and don't have faces.
Ever since I saw someone in my building walking around with a dead white rat in a baggie (they do animal testing in the building I work in) I have been opposed to animal testing very strongly!

What are your thoughts on cosmetics brands that still use animal testing? Is it ok? Is it wrong? Do you care?

  1. I do care and I shan't be buying L'Oreal or Maybelline again. It is truly disgusting that this still goes on.

  2. @Jaljen- yes, it is pretty horrible...I am extremely allergic to lots of things, they can test the backs of my ears and they don't have to dissect me afterwards! I am just using up what I have left of the stuff I have already bought and am no longer buying from companies like these who think it's ok to use animals for testing. How would I like it if someone put me in a small cage, rubbed all sorts of strange stinky chemicals on my ears that made me itchy and just observed the reactions and then killed me, and that was my whole life...I just don't feel good about it!

  3. I really hate animal testing... the worst part is that it is unecessary... but I love Essie so much( I think I will send them an email when I have the time...

  4. @tasha- Yes, send them an e-mail. Send them hundreds of e-mails, we need to get the word out, totally unnecessary!

  6. @Zara- well good, some e-mails will definitely help but I am just so sick of this animal testing that I am completely done giving my hard earned money to companies that still do animal testing, and that includes Essie, even though I like their nail polish, my values and morals are more important to me than Essie's latest color which will just come and go anyway!

  7. Hell yes I care! It disgusts me, there are so many brands out there that don't test on animals so obviously it's possible to get a good, safe end product without using helpless animals. I didn't realize Essie had been bought out by L'oreal. It's also sad to know almost all drugstore brands still test.

  8. What othre nail polish companies use animal testing?? We could coax many girls from the nail community to send emails... even if they just send in the same generic email over and over it would make a difference!

  9. I'm against animal testing and boycott those who do it. The only Essie's I own happen to be before the buy out and I don't even look at them much anymore when they come out with a new line. There are so many other fabulous brands that are animal cruelty free that I don't feel its a loss to move on from Essie.

  10. @ Freshie- I know, I am so disappointed

    @ Tasha- here is a website: http://www.caringconsumer.com/pdfs/companiesDoTest.pdf
keep in mind that the use of animal testing on certain household chemicals and drugs is required by law, but the use of animal testing in cosmetics is still kinda ridiculous...in my opinion.

@ Lacquer Ware- I don't hardly either but then I see someone raving about it and well, you probably know how it goes, but yes, the only Essie's I own are from before the buyout as well.

  11. I care about animal testing! It shouldn't be allowed! I've never bought any Essie, but if I will ever buy it, I will search on Ebay for the old laquers.
I don't know why they still do it, I mean for example OPI doesn't do animal testing, right? And their laquers are great! I think it's unnecceserily!
